The history of “Vassiliou” winery starts in 1905 from the grandfather Georgios Vassiliou, who made his first wine in Mesogeia Attikis. Today, Georgios Vassiliou, third-generation winemaker and oenologist continues producing high-quality Greek wines in his two wineries, at Koropi Attikis and Nemea in Peloponnese, which are exported throughout the world. Me, together with the well-known team of the familiarization trip, we visited the “Vassiliou Estate” at Koropi, an impressive place with beautiful decoration and details that steal your heart from the very first moment, from the external yard to the hall of the wine-tasting.

Our guided tour started from the basement, first in the room with the inox tanks and then in the fragrant cellar with the wooden barrels and the small stone rooms, where wine is kept in glass bottles. Afterwards, we went up to the main room for a short presentation by Mrs. Maria Alifragki of Signature Travel and the winery members of the product club “Attica Wine and Food experience”, core partner of the Attica Region in this project. After that, we had lunch consisting of local products and, of course… tasting of the exquisite local wines of different varieties, like Savatiano, Malagouzia, Agiorgitiko etc, as well as the unique Fumé! During our lunch, we had the chance to taste the wines of three more wine makers of “Attica Wine and Food experience”: those by Sotiris Gkinis from «AOTON», Evagelos Nikolou from «Nikolou Winery» and Vasilis Allagiannis from «Allagiannis Winery». The lunch was finished with a dessert of Christmas sweets (traditional tsoureki and melomakarona) accompanied with sweet red wine.

If you are jealous of what I saw and tasted… I have the solution for you: the above-mentioned wineries are open to public for wine-tasting or just a visit. I have included their official websites on their names for more details. Just don’t forget to send me your own photos when you are back, so that I can feel jealous too…. 😛
